In this Cheerson CX 33S FPV review, I’m going to share a few interesting things about this brand new creation from Cheerson. Cheerson is one consumer drone company I admire for their growing product line-up of affordable drones that are of a reasonable quality.

CX-33 is a brand new creation from Cheerson that comes in four different versions such as the Cheerson CX-33S which is a FPV version where the video transmitted directly to the monitor present on the transmitter of the tricopter; the CX-33W which is another FPV version where the video is transmitted over Wi-Fi, and finally, the CX-33C, which is a 720p camera version with no FPV and is the cheapest of all four CX-33 versions released by Cheerson.

Cheerson CX 33S FPV Review

Here, our singular focus is on the Cheerson CX-33S FPV. The Cheerson CX-33 drones are unique because of their Y-shaped main structures. They come with three arms, unlike a typical quadcopter that comes with four arms.  Each of the three arms has two motors.

Cheerson CX-33 uses an altitude hold mode where it uses a barometric sensor to check the air pressure, which ensures that the tricopter hovers at a consistent height. The barometric sensor is able to sense air pressure with excellent accuracy. The tricopter is able to give an accurate measure of how high it is in the sky based on the air pressure at different altitudes, which allows you to adjust the height as you see fit.

CX-33S is the FPV version of Cheerson CX-33 and it is available in the market for just under $103. It has an inbuilt 5.8 GHz transmitter that offers high quality video streaming and does not rely on Wi-Fi for the same. It consists of a monitor that is built right onto the transmitter. That’s why it is slightly more expensive than CX-33W, which is based on Wi-Fi.Cheerson CX 33S FPV Review

The recorded video quality on the CX-33S depends on the signal quality as the recording is done on the video receiver, so anything that is sent to the receiver gets recorded. This means interference from other devices can be an issue.

The CX-33S comes with a 2 mega pixel independent video transmission system that takes pictures and records and makes transmissions at real-time. The Cheerson CX-33S uses dual-spring control sticks. This allows multiple users to fly it at the same time and its transmission function consists of 8 frequency points. It generally flies at a height of 30 to 80 meters, and the FPV transmission distance is around 30 to 80 meters as well.

The CX-33S is quite powerful because of its 6 motors – 2 motors on each arm and comes with a Cheerson CX 33S FPV Review7.4v lithium ion battery. It uses the latest LED technology for lighting and has one key for landing and another for takeoff. I found it to be very stable in air because of the barometric sensor which allows you to adjust its altitude and to ensure that it flies consistently at the same height. There’s no question about its quality and I recommend it highly.

So is there a benefit to the Y shape this has? I would think it would only be good at flying toward the one direction (tail of the Y). Where others can fly with equal manuverability in all directions right? Im no expert I would just think this would be the case.

Hello Kyle, according to some practitioners, there is no difference between drones having a Y-shape, or having any other shape like a Quadcopter for example. Both offer excelent manuverability.

      Hope it helped you.

      Thanks for your comment.

    Hey Emanuel,

I am getting into the drone world and is on the market looking for the best entry level drone. I do not need anything crazy expensive at the moment.

During the holidays, I visited my brother in Tampa and saw that he had one, but it was like really useless. It lasted for 5 minutes on a full charge! I thought that the experience was a disappointment.

I read your review and liked the Cheerson CX 33S. How far does it fly and how long does it last on a full charge?

Thanks for the review and hope to get some answers from you soon.

Hi Jason, I´m glad that you liked my post.

You can fly up to 6-7 minutes with one charge, and about the distance, you can fly it up to 80 meters.

      Hope it helped you.

      Thanks for your comment.

Wow seems like a fun drone to drive, I got a little drone quadcopter but it’s not really easy to drive around, this one seems a lot easier with the altitude stabilizer which is really nice.
Mine doesn’t have a camera neither, I didn’t know you could get one with a camera for this cheap.
Also do you know about the battery life how long does it last ?
    Thanks for posting,
    Emile

Hi Emile, in fact the barometric sensor is a major plus in this Cheerson CX 33S.

The Flight time of this drone is around 6-7 minutes with one battery.

      I really appreciate your comment.

      Thanks.

Hi Kenneth, is it the first time that you are trying to calibrate the Cheerson CX33S?

To calibrate gyros, you have to press both stick in lower right position. To arm the quadcopter, you need to press both sticks in lower outter positions. To disarm, in lower inner positions.

If the problem persists, try removing the battery from the drone and remote control, and wait 1 minute.

Re-enter their batteries, repeat the calibration process to see if it works.

      I hope it helped you

Hi emanuel , i m facing similar binding issue with cx-33s.. i got my cheerson cx33 receiver damage so i bought a new receiver recently , tried almost everything but fails to bind this new replacement receiver with my previous old controller . Whenever i turn receiver red light keeps on blinking fast and same with controller blue light just keep on blinking . Without getting constant blue or without beep. On other hand i connect old faulty receiver to check it quickly binds in no time. My seller suggest me that first i have to get old receiver unlock and then try to add new one. But nothing seems to work . Pls help me on this .. thks

Hi Nikhil, I am sorry to hear about the problem you have.

I spoke with someone at Cheerson, about your problem, however, as far as he have heard that the new boards are different to old ones and they do not link to any radio control and that they have to be bought in pair. When he will be bact to work (He is on vacation), he will definitely will investigate new boards and see if there is anything to bind them with the transmitter.

What does the vendor say? Can they pair them up?

As soon as I have news from him, I will let you know.

      Thanks for your comment.

      Hi Nikhil,

I am facing a similar binding issue.
My Cheerson CX 33 mainboard had issues and the drone would not remain stable and would fly backward more and more.
So the drone cannot fly but it still binds.
Anyway, I recently bought a CX 33 receiver board from Banggood.
I did not bind. So I tested again with the older receiver board and it still binds so the transmitter is OK.
I have opened a support ticket and banggood customer service told my that the board is not compatible with my cheerson drone / transmitter because my Cheerson was bought in February 2016.
So far i have not found any official information that cheerson changed their protocol for the CX 33.
I have just contacted cheerson technical support I will updated you when/if they come back to me…

I finally got my our cheerson in and LOVE it. Best drone at its size to fly in doors. The one button take off took a bit to get used to, sometimes it would slam into the ceiling bit it’s a tough build. I also got the Riviera Predator which is an exact replica. Other than my Typhoon and jjrc h12, this is my favorite to fly. Great review. BTW how did you get into reviewing drones

      Hello,

Pls perform the gyroscope calibration. Place the dron on the flat surface and link the drone with the transmitter and after move both sticks to the right bottom corner.

      Regards,
      Emanuel

      Hi Jacques,

I would keep it in reccomended distance range as it may fly away. There is no certain response: it may fall down or continue to fly.

Hi Emanuel ,. At last I had to buy new latest controller for cx33 . You were right about changes made by manufacturer in late 2016 . I also thank bangood they refunded amount I paid for spare receiver circuit plate. Thanks
