DJI Mavic Pro Platinum – Is it worth buying?

The Mavic Pro Platinum has an elegant and compact design at the same time. It has a powerful and seductive allure.

An improved flight time of 30 minutes (3 minutes more than the standard version), combined with a 60% reduction in sound power, makes the Mavic Pro Platinum DJI the best portable drone on the market today.

Appearance

The Mavic Pro Platinum is available in a really nice platinum color which gives it a much more modern and aggressive style. Compared to the Mavic Pro, it can fly longer and quieter, giving you a better flight experience, which is to be put into perspective all the same.

Decibel level

Newly designed ESCs apply FOC (Field Oriented Control) technology with sinusoidal drive. Thanks to this new technology and the 8331 noise reduction propellers, the decibel level of the Mavic Pro Platinum is reduced compared to the standard version.

In outdoor tests, it is obvious that the standard version is quite noisy and I could see that the Mavic Pro Platinum could fly relatively quietly because its acoustic power was 50 – 60% lower than that of the Mavic Professional Standard.

Operational efficiency

The overall operational efficiency of the  Mavic Pro Platinum  is also improved. I piloted them in the same scenario.

It turned out that the Mavic Pro Platinum could fly for up to 30 minutes (at a constant speed of 25 km/h without wind) thanks to its improved propulsion system, which is 2-3 minutes more than the flight time maximum of the Mavic Pro. Thanks to OcuSync HD image transmission technology, the Mavic Pro Platinum offers a maximum transmission distance of 5.5 km and 1080p real-time preview and playback, which makes your flight even more fun, especially with the DJI Googles.

Obstacle Avoidance

The Mavic Pro Platinum shares the same forward and downward vision system as the Mavic Pro. When the bird encounters obstacles (with clear patterns and sufficient lighting) in front of it, it will hover automatically to avoid accidents.

The downward vision system allows the Mavic to hover accurately indoors or in places where there is no see little GPS signal.

Gimbal with three-axis stabilization – photo/video sensor

The Mavic Pro Platinum is equipped with the smallest three-axis stabilized gimbal ever produced by DJI, which allows you to obtain a good compromise between compactness and photo / video quality .

Its very good quality camera can capture C4K videos and can take RAW or JPEG images of 12M pixels. With a 28mm f/2.2 lens you can record anything, anytime.

Cut

With its foldable propellers, it’s so easy to transport the Mavic Pro Platinum. The size of the folded bird is 83 x 83 x 198 mm and its weight is 734 g, which makes it small enough to carry anywhere and can go under the 800g mark.

This little gem effortlessly transforms the sky into a creative canvas for our greatest pleasure!

My Opinion

DJI has just released the new Mavic Pro Platinum . You probably have a lot of questions about this new product. For example, how does the Mavic Pro Platinum outperform the classic version of the Mavic Pro? Will it be easier to use? What about the camera?

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the Mavic Pro Platinum and answer all your questions.

My Ratings: 9 out of 10

The Mavic Pro arrives in Platinum version with some improvements!

The DJI Mavic Pro Platinum is one of the best drones on the market. Its collapsible design makes it an option that can be carried anywhere, easily stored in a gear bag. It’s a bit quieter and flies longer than the original version, but also costs more.

Technical characteristics: 9.4

Design and Handling: 9.5

Video and photo performance: 9.1

Flight performance: 9.1

Autonomy: 9.2

Good & Bad sides in my view:

PositivesvsNegatives
Compact design and foldable drone. Not the cheapest.
Small radio control.Few improvements.
Forward obstacle avoidance.
Automated flight options.
Quality 4K video.
Up to 28 minutes flight time per charge.
Less noisy than the standard version

Is it waterproof?

No. Unfortunately it’s not waterproof. So you have to be careful.

It is also important to take off and land only in flat areas free of puddles since the Mavic Pro Platinum chassis is low to the ground,

Can the Mavic Pro Platinum battery be used with the Mavic Pro?

Yes, we have a good news. You can use interchangeably. So if you already possess one of them or used one of them previously and have a spare battery you can use it on another. Only problem will be color problems…

Should you buy it?

The Mavic Pro Platinum inherits all the functions of the Mavic Pro!

The maximum flight time of the Mavic Pro Platinum is increased to 30 minutes and the maximum hover time is 27 minutes.
The decibel level is reduced by 4dB (60% reduction in sound power) when the sensor is within 1m of the drone.

Another thing is the folding mechanism has been tested to last for at least 5000 folding times. It is unlikely to wear out over the lifetime of the Mavic Pro Platinum.

Just fold the propellers and you’re ready to go.

Most aerial videographers and YouTubers will love the DJI Mavic Pro Platinum. It’s the one of the best drone you can buy and will be a great choice.
