FPV racing has caught the imagination of a large number of consumer drone hobbyists and recreationists around the world. It’s an incredibly exciting sport, where even one-tenth of a second lost can make all the difference between winning and losing, especially when drones fly at a speed of 70 miles per hour or more. In this EMAX Nighthawk Pro 280 Review, we look at one of the best FPV drones out there and tell you if it’s worth a buy or not.
EMAX is a promising new startup that specializes in budget RC quadcopters and target beginners as well as experienced drone flyers with their products. Nighthawk Pro 280 is the company’s flagship product and is targeted specifically at FPV racers. It is a much cheaper alternative to other full sized FPV drones such as ImmersionRC.
EMAX Nighthawk Pro 280 is an ARTF (almost ready to fly) drone, which means it can be used right out of the box after a few adjustments to its settings. The advantage of flying an ARTF or an RTF (ready to fly) drone is that you can easily copy settings from other people as most of the functionalities when it comes to the frame dimension, ESC, FC and motors remain the same.
Let’s look at some of the features of Emax Nighthawk Pro 280…
The Flight Controller used in Emax Nighthawk Pro 280 is called “Skyline 32”, it is the same as what you get with the Naze32 Full board.
The ESC’s used in Emax Nighthawk Pro 280 are EMAX 12A ESC. They are Oneshot compatible as well as damped-light capable. The flight controller and the ESCs are integrated into a single printed circuit board.
The Motors used are EMAX 2204 2300KV.
The frame is made from full carbon fiber, which is really very strong and sturdy. The frame weighs around 450 grams without the battery.
There is an Integrated LED bar used, which is very bright. It comes in orange and white colors.
The FPV System consists of a 700tvl 1/3-inch CMOS FPV camera, with excellent picture quality. There is a 200mw 32ch video transmitter as well, which has a power of between 20mw to 200mw.
Why you should buy Emax Nighthawk Pro 280 ?
You should buy Emax Nighthawk Pro 280 because it provides excellent value for your money. Since the Nighthawk Pro 280 is an ARTF drone, it costs slightly less than it would have had you brought all the parts separately.
For example, if you buy all the parts separately, the four Emax MT2204 motors would cost $60, the four Emax 12A ESCs cost $40, the Naze32 Full costs $45, the Emax Pro Frame costs $60, the FPV camera or VTX combo costs $30, the LED bar costs $5 and the Tilted motor mounts cost $10 – So this adds to a total of $250. Add tax and shipping charges to that.
Now if you buy the Emax Nighthawk Pro 280 directly from Amazon or some other reputed online store, it would cost you slightly less than $250, but includes taxes. You will have to pay separately for the shipping, of course. And when you buy an ARTF version, you don’t have to do any soldering or assembling to hold the kit together. So the cost savings are enormous. And you won’t have to work as hard either – just take the Nighthawk Pro 280 out of the box, adjust the settings and start flying!
So, if you are excited by what the Emax Nighthawk Pro 280 has to offer and can’t wait to go to your local FPV racing club with it, you may place an order for it here (Transmitter included).
I wish you all the best, and remember that if you have any questions or comments you can post them in the comments section at the bottom of any blog post. It’s great to hear from you.
