In this Yuneec Q500 4K review, you’ll learn everything you need to know about this popular consumer drone from Yuneec, a company that has already made a name for itself as a top rated maker of RC model planes and ultra-light manned aircrafts. The Yuneec Q500 4K Typhoon is the company’s very first quadcopter and competes directly with the likes of DJI Phantom 3.
As you’ll find in this Yuneec Q500 4K review, the Q500 4K has been designed with a lot of thought and attention to detail. The sheer quality of the Q500 4k should surprise no one because although it is Yuneec’s first consumer drone, the company has been involved in the aviation industry for over 25 years – so there is a lot of experience there.
Yuneec Q500 4K Review – What to Expect?
First, let’s discuss the price – the Yuneec Q500 4K sells for $1299.99. That’s not cheap. But there’s a lot you get for this amount. First, let’s see what you get with the box. You get the drone itself, a gimbal with camera attached, replacement propellers, 16GB MicroSD card, two 5400 mAh batteries with charger, a SteadyGrip pistol-style holder that allows for handheld shooting using a detachable 4K camera, an ST10+ controller that comes with an integrated tablet screen, and spare parts that you’ll need for any rough landings. Phew! You get a lot with Yuneec Q500 4K and we strongly believe the $1299.99 price is justified. Let’s discuss its features….
The ST10+ controller is based on the Android operating system. It is a large device packed with features such as a 5-inch touch screen, buttons and control sticks. It is easy to handle, simple to use and allows you to control the Q500 4K with absolute ease.
Video and Image Quality
The Yuneec Q500 4K camera captures video at several resolutions, starting from 1920 x 170 pixels at 24 fps to 4096 x 2160 pixels at 25 fps. The video quality is very good with strong attention to detail. There are some who feel that the videos are slightly over saturated, but that depends on your point of view. The cameras are very sensitive to light and capture videos, even when the light isn’t all the good.
The Yuneec Q500 4K comes with 3 different flight modes – the Smart Mode, Angle Mode and Home Mode. The Smart Mode is meant for beginners who find it hard to know which way the drone is pointing.
So regardless of where the drone’s nose is pointing at, the Smart Mode ensures that it always moves in the direction where the control stick is pushed. The Angle Mode is for experienced drone flyers and the Home Mode ensures that you don’t have to worry about losing the drone if you lose control of it, as it always flies back to home base.
There is also a Follow Me function included with the Smart Mode where the drone follows you wherever you go. There are several built-in safety features as well. You don’t have to worry about entering no-fly zones near airports, because the Yuneec Q500 4K will know that all but itself and make adjustments to its flight automatically. This is an important feature to have and every drone will soon be required to have it.
Yuneec Q500 4K Review – Here’s What We Really Think…
The Yuneec Q500 4K is not cheap. But it is a very sophisticated, technologically advanced drone that comes with a plenty of great features. It makes for a great entry-level drone as it is ready to fly from the moment you get it out of the box and the controls are so simple that you’ll be able fly it like an experienced pro in no time at all. We definitely think that the Yuneec Q500 4K is worth it.
